Take some time to learn the following commands as they will help you register and administer your nickname. For all the commands do NOT type "<" or ">". Within these brackets is the text you are supposed to type.

It is important that you use your real e-mail address when registering in case you lose your password. If you lose your password you can email chat@goconnect.com.au and we'll try to help you. Please remember your nickname password can only be used for this chat room and not your email or internet account.

Registering and Protecting your Nickname

Log onto chat using the nickname you would like to register.
Type "/NS REGISTER <Password> <your email address>"

ie. If you wanted your password to be 'frosty' and your email was 'frosty@goconnect.net" you would type "/NS Register frosty frosty@goconnect.net"

Now type "/NS set kill on". This will prevent the use of your nickname without the password.

Each time you log into chat from then onwards you will be asked to identify yourself using your password. It is important you do not forget your password or you will no longer be able to use your nickname.

To identify yourself type "/NS identify <Password>" when prompted.
ie. If you password was 'frosty' you would type '/NS identify frosty'

Recovering your nickname

Occasionally when you join chat, you may find your nickname is already in use.

In order to recover your nickname join the chat using a temporary nickname.

Type "/NS recover <your nickname> <your password>" to remove your registered nickname from the chatroom.

Type "/NS release <your nickname> <your password>" to make your nickname available again.

Finally type "/NICK nickname" to change to your registered nickname.

To prevent others from using your nickname in the future remember to use the "/NS set kill on" command.

How do I change my password or email address?

To change your password type "/NS set passwd <newpassword> <oldpassword>"

To update your email address type "/NS set email username@goconnect.net"

The information command

You can find out information on a particular nickname using the info command.

You can do this by typing "/ns info <nickname>"

In addition to this you can modify the information show about your nickname using the following commands.

Display your email address "/ns set showemail on"

Hide your email address "/ns set showemail off"

Show people your homepage address "/ns set url http://www.myhomepage.com"

Erase your homepage address "/ns set url"
